iamRushdog is a progressive artist who is gaining worldwide recognition for his unique combination of traditional and modern calligraphy. Inspired by the street culture of Mexican neighborhoods in Los Angeles, where he spent a part of his childhood, iamRushdog has developed a relationship with the art associated with Latin culture. This culture later led him to his own interpretation of calligraffiti called Smokeletters, which combines the traditional Old English style of 12th century (blackletter) and the Cholo letters of the West Coast in Los Angeles. Among other things, iamRushdog likes to apply gestural and dynamic brushstrokes in his work, resulting in a symbiosis and balance between positive and negative space that is often contrasting in color and surface. When viewed from a distance, the compositions create a unified whole. iamRushdog’s paintings also often carry strong personal messages.
